Andrew Anderson
Bio
Andrew Anderson is a research scientist at IBM Research in the AI pillar, focused primarily on human-AI interaction (HAI). He earned his PhD in Computer Science from Oregon State University, advised by Margaret Burnett (with a statistics minor, advised by Katherine McLaughlin). His dissertation focused on how HAI practitioners can create more harmonious HAI, first findings areas for improvement in the User eXperience (UX) for people with myriad backgrounds and proposing two solutions towards how to improve them---one human-centric and another AI-centric. His research interests continue to revolve around a human-centric approach to how questions, leveraging his extensive experiences with experimental design and mixed-methods analysis methods. During his PhD, his approaches paid off; work was accepted to top research venues (both conference and journal), including CHI, IUI, TIIS, and IJCAI.
Before his PhD, Andrew earned his MS in Computer Science from Oregon State University, and he earned his BS in Mathematics & Computer Science (double major) from Sam Houston State University.
