Bio

Dr. Stephen (Steve) Buckley is a Senior Client Technical Advisor at the IBM Think Lab, an innovative client center where IBM and its clients discuss and apply leading edge solutions from IBM Research. In this role, Steve hosts client meetings and demonstrates new technologies in the areas of AI and Quantum Computing. He is also the project leader for the IBM Research JupyterLab, a cloud-based notebook platform that is used to demonstrate IBM Research innovations.

In his previous role as Applied Research Leader for IBM Business Analytics & Strategy, he had worldwide responsibility for coordinating IBM Research with IBM Global Business Services in the area of business analytics and optimization.

In previous roles, Dr. Buckley was developer and manager of a number of leading-edge business process and supply chain modeling tools that were leveraged to transform and improve IBM’s processes and supply chain, as well as those of IBM’s clients. He was a member of the team that won the 1999 INFORMS Edelman award for the successful deployment of advanced supply chain modeling tools in IBM.

Dr. Buckley also spent over two years working in IBM Corporate Development, IBM’s Mergers & Acquisitions organization.

He received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from MIT in 1987, the M.S. degree in Computer Science from Penn State University in 1978, and the B.S. degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from Florida State University in 1977. He was the General Chair of the 2014 Winter Simulation Conference, the premier international forum for disseminating recent advances in the field of system simulation.
