The benzo- and dibenzofluoranthenes, widespread environmental contaminants, have been subjects of continued interest. Calculations of the reactivity of potential ultimate carcinogenic metabolites of the benzofluoranthenes predict unexpected behavior for these non-alternant hydrocarbons. © 1983.
