GALOP/2D: A GRAPHICAL SYSTEM FOR WORK-CELL LAYOUT EVALUATION.

Abstract

With the increasing use of programmable automation in industries, there is an ever increasing need for tools for developing applications associated with industrial work-cells that have programmable equipment. Development of the layout of the work-cell to accomplish specified manufacturing operations efficiently is an important part of the process of developing such applications. The objective of GALOP (Graphical Aid for Layout Optimization) is to enable the manufacturing engineer to experiment easily with any number of layouts for an application. This paper describes the problem of work-cell layout, the capabilities of GALOP/2D system, and an example of its application.
