Using a Green's function approach, expressions for the differential conductivity and the current fluctuations have been derived in terms of the Wigner distribution function satisfying a Boltzmann equation. By this approach it is possible to generalize very simply to non-equilibrium situations, previously obtained results appropriate for thermodynamic equilibrium. Applications to the theory of hot electrons in semiconductors and to the theory of photoconductivity are briefly considered. © 1970 Springer-Verlag.
