Nucleophilic aromatic substitution reactions were applied to AB2 monomers in different solvent systems yielding aryl ether polymers. In these polymerizations, the aryl halide was activated toward substitution by an electron withdrawing group which lowered the electron density at the site of substitution and also stabilized the transition state once substitution has occurred. The solvents used resulted to a considerable difference in molecular weights of the polymers as indicated by intrinsic viscosity measurements. The polymers produced are moderately high molecular weight polymer.
