DB2 is a brand new product built to the highest software engineering and ease of use standards. Its architecture is very general and open-ended and is designed for, and exploits, current IBM large processor hardware and software. Also it is excellently positioned to exploit future hardware and software developments. This paper looks at how DB2 has been designed in exactly this way.
