Block Truncation Coding is a technique for image compression in the spatial domain, which uses an adaptive one bit quantizer over small blocks. This paper suggests some modifications of the basic technique, aimed at improving the image quality, and at the reduction of the overall bit-rate. Good quality images were obtained with a rate of 0. 6 bit per picture element.
