The evolution of the recent resurgence of activity in molecular electronics is discussed. The developments in nanoscale science and technology enable individual molecules or small numbers to be connected into actual test devices. Molecular electronics may be considered as a prime contributor to the building of nanoscale quantum mechanics using the power of quantum-state superposition. An understanding the synergistic and cooperative effects in complex molecular systems can help in the development of novel unconventional electronic devices.
