Nucleation in racemic mixtures

Abstract

Binary nucleation theory is used to calculate the rate of nucleation in racemic mixtures of menthol enantiomers. It is found that the rate of nucleation is a much more sensitive probe of the nonideality in racemic mixtures than is the vapor pressure. Equations are developed for the nucleation rate and the change in vapor pressure as functions of the magnitude of the nonideal effects. Copyright © 1977 American Institute of Physics.
