Research on molecules for electronics
Abstract
The possibility of building and testing molecules that have useful electronic properties is discussed. The design of molecular rectifiers and switches is reviewed, as are techniques for the attachment of these molecules to surfaces and their characterization. The potential advantages and the difficulties of this approach are mentioned. It is concluded that if a small number of molecules can produce a desired electrical function, presumably the resulting systems would be smaller, faster, and more manufacturable.
