Textile Graphics/Computer Aided: A course taught at the Fashion Institute of Technology

Abstract

Textile Graphics/Computer Aided is the first course presented in the U.S. dealing with the processes of computer aided textile design and manufacture. Given to students and members of the textile industry at the Fashion Institute of Technology, the course is composed of 15 modules, each accompanied by a computer workshop, and is taught using a team-teaching approach. The course is designed to address the needs of three groups of people: textile designers, textile technologists and manufacturers, and textile management. The course provides the student with a good grasp of what computers are capable of doing with specific reference to the problems of the textile industry. It also makes the student aware of how computers do things, what aspects of an apparent function are performed by the computers hardware (wiring) and what aspects are performed by a program (set of instructions) put into the computer.
