THE USE OF LIFE EXPECTANCY TO MANAGE LOTUS NOTES EMAIL STORAGE
Abstract
Managing storage on Lotus Notes servers reduces to managing of individual files as each Notes application is a separate file. We describe techniques for the analysis of historical disk usage data on Domino email servers. Robust analysis techniques are then used to project the life expectancy of disk partitions given historical growth rates. Administrators faced with short file system life expectancies must make informed decisions to add disk capacity or move selected databases to other file systems. We also describe a high level design for an interactive administrative tool. The techniques described here support evaluating what-if scenarios until an adequate disk management plan is identified.
