One often hears the claim that as the size of VLSI designs increases, fault simulation will becomes impractical. I would like to advocate the opposite position - that simulation will remain a practical approach through the foreseeable future. Further, simulation has certain advantages over analytic techniques. During this discussion, some potential problems are identified which must be addressed if simulation is to remain practical.
