Dr. Ryuki Tachibana is a Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM Quantum.
He received his B.E. and M.E. in aerospace engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 1996 and 1998, and his Dr. Eng. degree from Osaka University in 2007. Since he joined IBM Japan in 1998, his main research interests have been in the fields of cognitive technologies including digital watermarking, text-to-speech synthesis (TTS), automatic speech recognition (ASR), other machine learning areas, and quantum computing. In 2003, he was awarded the Digital Watermarking Industry Gathering Event's Best Paper Award at Security and Multimedia Contents V of Electronic Imaging 2003. His work includes research and development of Speech To Text and Text To Speech services of Watson. He served as the senior manager of IBM Research AI of Tokyo since 2016 until 2022. In the same period, he also served as a visiting professor at Toyohashi University of Technology in 2017 and 2018. In 2022, he moved to the general manager's office of IBM Japan and worked as an Executive Project Lead and watsonx Project Manager until early 2024. Since 2024, he is working on social implementation of quantum computing at IBM Quantum.
