Dr. Ton Engbersen has been with IBM since 1980. His career has spanned such diverse areas as image processing, chip design, communications technology, server technology, legacy management and innovation in outsourcing. From 2010 until 2017 he led a collaboration with ASTRON in the Netherlands and IBM Research in Zurich concerning high speed technology for SKA. Since 2018 he is external awards coordinator for part of the Zurich Laboratory.
Throughout the years he has held a range of management positions in Research and Development in Switzerland and in the US.
Ton has been a member of the IBM Academy of Technology since 1994.
Ton holds a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Eindhoven University, The Netherlands, and a PhD from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich.
In January of 2016, Ton was appointed honorary professor of Data Science Engineering in the Institute of Artificial Intelligence & Cognitive Engineering (ALICE) of the Mathematics and Nature Science department at the University of Groningen.
Early 2017, Ton retired from IBM and continues to support the Zurich Research Laboratory in several area's as external award coordinator
