Green's functions for steady-state, one-dimensional heat conduction for discretely inhomogeneous media are found by using an interactive principle. Exact solutions can therefore be expressed by Green's representation. An unsteady problem is solved numerically by treating the time derivative as a source term. The results demonstrate accuracy, stability, and efficiency. © 1993.
