A refreshed write-through mode has been demonstrated for a proposed direct view storage tube utilizing an active electroluminescent faceplate. Exploitation of the temporal decay of persistent beam-induced conductivity permits the injection of sufficiently small quantities of electron charge to enhance the electroluminance as a pulsed excitation which decays with time, rather than cause a permanent switching. Experimental results are presented to characterize the performance of a device based on this concept. Copyright © 1982 by The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.
