Thin Solid Films
We have investigated the theoretical linear density resolution of an MR head, shielded or unshielded, reading a vertical medium, with or without underlayer. The shielded MR has a high - 3 dB density. Dibit bitshift is much smaller with maximum-slope than with zero-crossing detection. Finally, presence of an underlayer degrades linear resolution. © 1986.
