Grain-boundary transport of a 119mSn radiotracer has been studied in Pb foils The grain-boundary employing permeation and nuclear absorption techniques. The grain-boundary diffusion coefficients are described by the expression Db = 1·1 × exp [− 0·47(±0·07) eV/kT]cm2/s over the 34–90°C temperature range. The permeation technique appears to provide a simple and quantitative method for determining mass transport along grain boundaries in systems having large enough absorption coefficients for the diffusing tracer. © 1980 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
