We consider a metal electrode in contact with a solution of a simple strong electrolyte in the case, where only one kind of ion is adsorbed. Experimentally it has been found, that in such systems at low electrolyte concentrations the formal charge on the metal is approximately equal to the formal charge in the adsórbate layer. This effect is explained by the Gouy-Chapman theory and thermodynamic arguments. © R. Oldenbourg Verlag
