Monte carlo simulation of digital magnetic recording on particulate media
Abstract
The dynamics of the magnetic recording process can best be studied by considering the switching behavior of the magnetic moments of the interacting fine particles which comprise the storage medium. A Monte Carf model is introduced and applied to saturation nonreturn to zero recoding on particulate oriented media. The dipole interaction is explicitly taken into account. The demagnetization effects on single and double magnetization transitions are isolated in the simulations. The recording properties of particulate media can now be modeled in terms of the thermal activation of single domains. An initial attempt at particle size effects is carried out. The Monte Carlo results are in good agreement with available experimental data and self-consistent iterative model calculations. © 1987 IEEE
