Performant Transpilation of Utility-Scale Quantum Circuits

Abstract

In this tutorial we detail the procedures involved with mapping abstract quantum circuits to those executable on a target quantum system. Focus will be on the Qiskit implementation of this transpilation process, how it works, what people can do with it, how to utilize different passes (including transpiler services), and some benchmarks comparing the performance of transpilation in Qiskit against other SDKs. We focus on some celebrated applications of quantum computing, such as simulating the Fermi-Hubbard model, and show how circuit transpilation can be optimized and customized in Qiskit using a variety of techniques. We also highlight some passes that use artificial intelligence for improved performance.
