Modified Bloch equations of a novel form are derived to second order and yield analytic FID solutions over the entire range of optical field strength. The authors report a new way of detecting nuclear magnetic resonance in solids and gases using a coherent optical and radio frequency induced Raman effect. In addition, a novel Raman interference effect has been discovered in Pr3 plus //3. An optical interferometric technique is proposed for stabilizing and measuring a laser frequency in terms of a radio frequency (rf) standard.
