Observed spin asymmetry of polarized electrons scattered by ferromagnetic metallic glasses and spin polarization of Auger electrons can be explained qualitatively in terms of spin-selective scattering involving intermediate excitation of a transient 3p3d self-screened state. Decay of this state is observed as the main MVV Auger peak. © 1985 The American Physical Society.
