Theoretical investigations of the transient light amplification of stimulated thermal Rayleigh scattering predict a gain proportional to t2 and, most interesting, a gain at =L-S=0 (L and S are the laser and signal frequency, respectively). Experimental investigations using a light amplifier with high-frequency resolution (L10-8) confirm our calculations. © 1969 The American Physical Society.
