Bio
Damon Farmer received a BS in Physics with High Honors from Vanderbilt University in 2001, and a PhD in Applied Physics from Harvard University in 2007. He conducted research under the supervision of Leonard Feldman at Vanderbilt, and under the supervision of Roy Gordon at Harvard. His graduate thesis work focused on the applications of atomic layer deposition in nanoelectronic systems, including carbon nanotubes and nanocrystals. He then spent three years as a post-doctoral fellow at the IBM TJ Watson Research Center under the managment of Phaedon Avouris, where he studied the optical and electronic properties of graphene. In 2010 he became a Research Staff Member at Watson, continuing research on graphene, and extending his research into carbon nanotubes. His current activities at IBM are centered on the investigation of material systems relevant to artificial intelligence and quantum computing hardware. He has over 70 patents and is the author of over 70 refereed publications, including articles in Science and Nature, with over 19,000 combined citations.
